A Families Ugly Truth about Insurance and Health Care

There is no pretty pictures in this post only the UGLY truth of how health care is more about getting the money and less about treating the person. This post will have absolutely nothing to do with art and everything to do with the screwed up health system. I am so disgusted with our so called health care system and I am going to explain why. A very close family member of mine woke with a headache the other night only to end up having a seizer, she said she was feeling better only to start having another one a little while later. Now I don't know every detail of what exactly happened that morning, I do know I received a call at 7:30 in the morning letting me know she was on the way to the hospital. This family member I speak of is a wonderful mother of 5, a foster mother of 2 other children, a wife and she works a regular job. Her family is not the type of family to sit around and let the government take care of them, not only that a few months ago they had their house burn ...

Life's Little Test For Me

As most of you know I have decided to hold off on selling any of my artwork, I need to make sure I am completely legit before I make the move. I need to get a business structure and a business license, which of course both take money. If you have read any of my other post and my about page you will know we lost our house a few years ago, well we our getting a little closer to being home owners again. It has been a LONG drawn out process but hopefully worth it we, still have to get the inspection and praying that all will be good. Of course with every new home there are things that need to be purchased and thing that will have to wait. I have choose to wait on the business license until I know where we are with the house, if it passes inspection and we get the right loan then the business license will have to wait, if it does not pass inspection then I will probably go ahead and get my "art" business set-up. Either way  I will continue to create, this is just another test in ...

Oh My Gouache

My goal today was to do a nice little Mothers Day painting with gouache. We had a busy day planned so I got started on it this morning before we went anywhere. I didn't draw it out, I wanted to go free brush. Part of me went into this thinking, "OK, I can do this", this other part of me said "you need more practice with the faces and the gouache."I figured what the hell, lets give it a try and see how it comes out, the only way we learn is through our mistakes, right? So this is what I started with before we started our day: I though, "Not a bad start, I can defiantly work with this", unfortunately, It was time to head out so I found a stoping point and we went about our day. Got home and went right back to work, and I can honestly say I am not happy with the end result. I am still trying to get past this learning curve with the blending of gouache. Sometimes I can get it to blend ok and other times I want to throw my paint brush across the ...

Did Someone Say Blueberries?

Sketched, outlined in ink and colored with colored pencils on paper I wanted to do something this weekend that we have never done, U-pick it Blueberries. I have never been a huge fan of blueberries but my husband and son liked them, so I figured what the heck, lets go. We went to a place in Clermont, Fl called Southern Hill Farms , it was about 20 minutes away from my in-laws house so it wasn't too far. So armed with my GPS we set out on our little trip, after realizing I just passed the road we did a U-turn (almost got hit because someone was riding my ass) and found our way to the 5 mile dirt road we had to go down before we made it to the farm, but it was a gorgeous view.  Since this was something we had never done before I wanted to know the best place to pick and the best blueberries and of course I wanted them sweet. The workers at the farm were great and they actually took us on a tractor to a good location further away (more berries). The Family  O...

Fun City Life

Cartoon Cityscape in gouache and ink on canvas I am a rare breed here in Florida, I was born, raised and still live in Florida. That doesn't mean that I have not traveled a little. The Sad thing is I have never seen a real bustling city. I would love to go to New York City, ride the subway and of course visit the Art District, however my sweet hubby doesn't think I can handle the crowds. My anxiety tends to get the best of me in large crowds. That doesn't mean I don't want to go, I might actually surprise everyone and handle it just fine. My husband is from Long Island and has went to the city plenty of times, a lot of his family still lives there. One of his Aunts live in Ozone Park , NY. Did you know the name "Ozone Park" was chosen to try to bring buyers in with the idea of refreshing breezes blowing in from the ocean? It was created and settled in 1882 by two wealthy partners Benjamin W. Hitchcock and Charles C Denton after the Long Island Rail Road...

Technology Taking Over Our Lives

I will warn you now, this blog entry has nothing to do with art what so ever.  Today on my drive home from work I was almost side swiped 3 times in a matter of 15 minutes (absolutely no exaggeration, actually it was probably less time), and what was going on?? Nope I didn't have a giant magnet on the side of my car, I was driving by a couple of jerks texting and driving. What pisses me off the most is that twice it was the same lady with a child in the car. She was so focused on her phone she didn't even noticed I honked the first time, I had to lay on my horn to make her pay attention. After getting past her little bug I looked back in my rearview mirror and she was literally in between two lanes. What is so important that people have to put everyones life in danger? Why can they not wait until the next traffic light? I am not the perfect driver, but I will not put my life or my families life in danger to answer some stupid text. I even had a new radio installed i...
