Feeling a Little Ducky

As moving day is coming closer I have had to pack up most of my art supplies, which has limited me to 2 small sketch books, the pens I use the most and my handy, dandy tablet. I have turned to my tablet lately and have been pleasantly surprised by what I have been able to do. I had a very difficult time at first drawing on the tablet so I did more tradition, pen and paper drawings. Since I basically have no supplies for another 30 or so days I have made it a mission to keep creating what ever way I can in between, packing, children, work and life in general.

This is how I have started my last 2 tablet drawings:




Just a scribble across the entire screen, in the righthand side I saw a penguin and that was were I was going to started, then I on the bottom lefthand side I saw a duck and thats were I started. This is the cute little duck that came from this scribbly mess:


I am finding many benefits of sketching on a tablet

  1. Layers - I can start a new layer and not have to worry about messing up and not being able to erase it.
  2. Abstract brushes - call it lazy but it was nice not having to draw out every grass blade.
  3. Smudge tool - it doesn't work as well as I would like, probably because I am not using it right. but it blends.
  4. Erasing - I have tried this scribble technique with regular pencil  and paper but I have a heavy hand so erasing can be quite a chore, erasing on a tablet is so much easier.
  5. The fill tool - Great, great tool, as long and you get it in the right spot and don't accidentally touch the screen, which bring me back to liking layers.
I still think the traditional way is best but if we are being honest Technology is taking over and it's nice to know we can still do our sketches even if its not on real paper.

Jasper's Cat Naps

Usually the reason for me having problems creating is becuase I have artist block or just too busy, well now I have a new problem. Mr. Jasper has found a new napping place. This creates a big problem on so many levels: He is in my way As you can see, he is very hairy and has a lot of hair balls which he has no issues getting rid of wherever he would like. Again, very hairy and he sheds, on everything including the painting I was working on. (good thing I was not happy with the painting). He will push off anything in his way Along with my art desk he has found a few other places, our computer desk, in front of the satellite receiver, the bathtub and the bin where I keep my art towels.  Along with is odd sleeping area he now has fleas. I will not say where he got these from but I do know the source. Now its off to the pet store to find a product to put on him because giving this cat a bath is a death sentence for anyone that attempts it. We have never had a flea proble...

Digital Flowers

I am still trying to get the hang of the tools, love how many different apps there are for  drawing on a tablet. Each one has its own thing to offer. I will be working on these on  my down time from painting, more to come soon though.

Page of Flowers

It has been a couple of weeks since my last post. We have been very busy, we finally found a house! After being in a contract for over 9 months with a short sale house we decided to step away from it and see if we would qualify for a new house, we did. So between the kids being back at school and getting all the necessary paperwork together for the house I have had very little time to blog. However, that does not mean I haven't made time to create. I have been doing a lot of artwork in my smaller sketchbook lately, It is much easier to carry around on the go, and we have been on the go. The flowers were drawn first then painted in with watercolors and sketched out the rest in pen.
