Life is Better at the Beach

One of my favorite places to go is the beach, it is so relaxing listening to the waves break and taking a nice night walk and letting the wind blow in your hair. We live in Central Florida so we have our pick from the East or West coast. I have put together my favorites.
My Top Florida East Coast Beaches:
These are the beaches  that we go to for a day trip nothing to far away

Cocoa Beach

  • Cocoa Beach - Very close only about 30 - 45min away, No parking on the beach. You have Ron Jon Surf Shop and they have a great little Pizza joint too, you can actually get a 26" pizza it was huge. Best parking in my opinion is across from the Air Force Base, there are no life guards so you need to be careful. Not as many people either, so you don't have to walk another half mile to find the perfect spot because if you are like us, we bring the lunches, towel, canopy and chairs. Thats another great thing about this spot, the beach is really close, oh and the parking is free (even better!!)
  • New Symrna - A little further away, about 1hr - 1.5hr depending on traffic, you have to take I-4, anyone that lives in Florida knows the only thing predictable about I-4 is that at some point you will hit traffic, Then you get off on this on route 44 (A long boring road) and drive for another 30 or so min.You can park on this beach but you have to get there super early if you don't want to drive for 30 min to find a parking spot. Great beach if you are going with a group of friends, and that is usually the only time we go to this beach.

My Top West Coast Beach:
Sunset in Siesta Key
  • Siesta Key -  This is by far my most favorite beach, it is gorgeous! The sand isn't sticky, it is clean and clear. If we could go here every year I would. If you are coming to Florida to go to the beach, you have to look in to this place. If you find a sand dollar make sure it is white (dead) if you want to bring it home, there are fines if you are found with any live ones (they are grey). Don't ask me how anyone would find out, either way I have never taken the chance. Would you want to be responsible for killing a live creature just for a souvenir? (not me).  Oh, and remember I said I was a huge fan of Salvador Dali, well it's not to far from the museum in St. Petersburg.

Our children actually getting along (yea!!)

(Dead) Sand Dollars we found

There are of course other beaches around, and I would love to hear your favorites. A great beach is hard to find and I would like to know where you would recommend.

Feeling a Little Ducky

As moving day is coming closer I have had to pack up most of my art supplies, which has limited me to 2 small sketch books, the pens I use the most and my handy, dandy tablet. I have turned to my tablet lately and have been pleasantly surprised by what I have been able to do. I had a very difficult time at first drawing on the tablet so I did more tradition, pen and paper drawings. Since I basically have no supplies for another 30 or so days I have made it a mission to keep creating what ever way I can in between, packing, children, work and life in general. This is how I have started my last 2 tablet drawings: Just a scribble across the entire screen, in the righthand side I saw a penguin and that was were I was going to started, then I on the bottom lefthand side I saw a duck and thats were I started. This is the cute little duck that came from this scribbly mess: I am finding many benefits of sketching on a tablet Layers - I can start a new layer and not

Is It Noisy Out Here

I am a day behind on posting for Day 2 of Inktober but that is ok.  I went with the prompt on this one "Noisy," as much as I would have loved to draw my children it would have taken too long.  Personally I love music almost any type, but the one thing I can't seem to understand, is when your in your car and a car beside you has the bass so high that it rattles your brain. I myself have never sat in a car with bass that high for fear that my ears or head would explode so I don't know if you can even hear anything other than bass. So here is my questions, they are to help others understand the reason behind the bass. What is the point of having the bass up that high? Can you hear anything other than bass? Is it a status thing, the higher the bass the cooler you are? Does it do damage to you vehicle? with all that vibration it has to rattle something loose, right? Well at least I know I will have a few more years with out hearing aids than the

Hey Cupcake

One of my favorite things to bake is cupcakes, so for Day 21 of #inktober you got a cupcake. Of course I can never get my icing as perfect as this but they always taste good. They are so much easier to make then a regular cake, you don't have to worry about the bottom sticking to the pan or cutting the top of the layers to make it flat. Bake the cupcake and throw some icing on them unless of course you are going for a more creative look but even then it's still easier in my opinion. Hey Cupcake keep on inking!!
