Interactive Art

I get a newsletter emailed to me from "Skinny Artist", the specific  blog was about "How to get more traffic to your website". They had mentioned a website called stumbleupon.com, being the curious woman that I am I checked it out, signed up for it and now  I am hooked.
What is it?
Stumbleupon.com is a discovery engine that finds and recommends web content to its users.  You are able to personalize it to your taste and interest.  You chose some of your interests and it will bring up sites that contain those interest. It is great if you want to browse the internet but don't know what you are looking for.
What I found
Of course one of my interest was art and it brought up this pretty cool interactive art site called weavesilk.com. It is interactive generative art that allows you to use your mouse to create whirls and transform beautiful designs right on your computer screen, it was created by Yuri Vishnevsky, a computer science and linguistics student.
I can see myself using this when I want to create and have no idea what I want to do or just a new way to mediate before I paint or draw. What it also lead me to do is check out what the app stores have. If you have an iPad there is an app for this called "Silk - Interactive Generative Art", however if you have an android tablet, this app is not available but there is one like it called "Silk Paints".  I played around with the android version, it is fun and allows you to create more of a picture then just a design. I have not tried out the iPad version yet, they did not have a free download.
This is one of the designs i created on weavesilk.com, It would make a pretty cool background.

Jasper's Cat Naps

Usually the reason for me having problems creating is becuase I have artist block or just too busy, well now I have a new problem. Mr. Jasper has found a new napping place. This creates a big problem on so many levels: He is in my way As you can see, he is very hairy and has a lot of hair balls which he has no issues getting rid of wherever he would like. Again, very hairy and he sheds, on everything including the painting I was working on. (good thing I was not happy with the painting). He will push off anything in his way Along with my art desk he has found a few other places, our computer desk, in front of the satellite receiver, the bathtub and the bin where I keep my art towels.  Along with is odd sleeping area he now has fleas. I will not say where he got these from but I do know the source. Now its off to the pet store to find a product to put on him because giving this cat a bath is a death sentence for anyone that attempts it. We have never had a flea proble...

Going Back to Digital

The reality is that a lot of things are going digital, and when it comes to art I have been putting it off. So last week I made the decision to purchase a Wacom Tablet, I am a beginner when it comes to digital drawing and it will take time to learn all the cool tools they have on the software. I choose a tablet that was the most cost effective for a beginner and I am happy with the results. I worked on this little tree for about 2 days, mostly because I was trying to find the right tool. I was a little worried about the size of the tablet but it matched the size of the work area on the computer. I originally purchased a cheap version of a graphics table years and years ago but I was never able to get the results I got with this one, honestly I never completely figured out how to use that one. since I am using a Mac I choose to use Sketchbook Pro, it is a hell of a lot cheaper then the Adobe Illustrator subscription, I am happy with the tools that Sketchbook Pro has to offer. So this...

Page of Flowers

It has been a couple of weeks since my last post. We have been very busy, we finally found a house! After being in a contract for over 9 months with a short sale house we decided to step away from it and see if we would qualify for a new house, we did. So between the kids being back at school and getting all the necessary paperwork together for the house I have had very little time to blog. However, that does not mean I haven't made time to create. I have been doing a lot of artwork in my smaller sketchbook lately, It is much easier to carry around on the go, and we have been on the go. The flowers were drawn first then painted in with watercolors and sketched out the rest in pen.
